The Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on October 22, 2016. Through its efforts to promote tourism, economic vitality, civic engagement, community safety, volunteerism, social connectedness, walkability and the arts, the Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project is dedicated to supporting a healthy, safe and thriving community. The acronym H.E.A.R.T. indicates Ramona as the geographic center of San Diego County and also reflects the character of the community with H signifying historic and hiking; E signifying Equine; A for the Arts, Antiques and Agriculture; R for scenic rural vistas and drives; and T for Tasting of fine wines. In fact, Ramona Valley was designated an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 2006 by the Federal Government.
Various murals are located around the town of Ramona and each contains at least one heart icon within it and usually several. The goal is to encourage people to get out of their vehicles to more closely interact with the mural, supporting healthy behaviors of walking and physical movement.
The Mural Project’s focus on using beautiful murals as an outdoor visual arts program to encourage economic vitality through increasing tourism, promoting community pride, and celebrating their rich cultural heritage is a major part of Live Well San Diego’s Thriving component.
