San Diego County Credit Union’s® (SDCCU®) dedication to building healthier, safer and thriving communities is embedded in its corporate culture and extends outward into the community. Founded more than 75 years ago by San Diego County employees on the principle that people come first and profits second, SDCCU is now San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution. With $6.9 billion in assets and over 291,000 customers, SDCCU proudly supports more than 75 non-profits and participates in 200-plus community events each year.
SDCCU is the nation’s only credit union to sponsor a college football bowl game. The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is more than just a football game; it’s an opportunity for SDCCU to help its hometown thrive. Since the game’s inception in 2005, the bowl has driven more than 85 million dollars into the local economy during a week when the region’s tourism industry is at its slowest.
SDCCU is proud of this impact and will continue to serve their customers’ financial needs and give back to local communities. One dollar from every game ticket sold is donated to a non-profit beneficiary.
The 10th annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl was held on December 23, 2014 at Qualcomm Stadium. The game was attended by more than 33,000 bowl enthusiasts and was played by Navy who defeated San Diego State 17-16.
The San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl is put on each year by the San Diego Bowl Game Association along with the Holiday Bowl. Both games combined generate more than 30 events year round including the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade. The parade attracts more than 100,000 spectators who view over 20 giant character balloon entries, including
SDCCU’s 30-foot-high helium inflatable sailboat, floating along Harbor Drive’s scenic bay-front route. This is more balloons than any other parade in the country (including Macy’s® Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City). Close to 20 marching bands also participate in the event.
Both bowl games and the parade, which showcases the beauty of San Diego in December, are televised nationally to more than six million viewers.
