The Jewish Family Service’s College Avenue Center is an active adult social and wellness center located in San Diego near Interstate 8 in Del Cerro.  The center offers an eclectic mix of activities, exercise classes, and cultural programs geared for adults over 60, along with a delicious lunch complete with customer choice and salad bar.  Coming to the College Avenue Center is a great way for older adults to spend the day or even a few hours exercising their body, mind, and spirit.

Adding Life to Years: Aging Well Program

Part 1 of a 3 part series on Aging Well, presented by Dr. Bruce Sachs, Senior Clinician with Jewish Family Service of San Diego.  Dr. Sachs presents a thought provoking interactive discussion about adding enjoyment to your life. It is not the years that we have lived, but the “life” and effort that we put into it that will make our lives more fulfilling. Dr. Sachs has been a practicing psychologist for over 30 years.

Cultivating an Inquiring Mind: Meaning

In this series, Lindsay Wagner leads us on an engaging exploration of how we can reconnect and cultivate our innate curiosity.  Curiosity, once an everyday component of our lives as children, can get pushed aside as we grow and our lives become filled with family, careers, and partners.  Once life slows down, how do we reconnect to this part of our lives?  How do we stimulate and cultivate a mind that inquires and asks questions that challenge us?  Through this dynamic presentation and group discussion, Lindsay will show us how we can cultivate this part of our lives again.  Presented by Lindsay Wagner, BSN, Educator and Consultant.

Making Friends at Any Age

The importance of friendship with Lesley Alexander, Case Manager with Jewish Family Service of San Diego. An interactive program encouraging the cultivation and importance of friendship as older adults.  As we get older, our friends move away or pass away and it can be difficult to make new friends. Lesley will share ideas about ways to make new friends and how these valuable relationships add to the happiness in your life.

“Fiber, Something to Chew On”

A nutrition class with Erica Macht of Oasis Healthy Habits for Adults. Erica will share many of the important facts about the importance of incorporating fiber into your daily diet. She will demonstrate and share some recipes and we’ll sample some tasty treats too.  We are told to eat more fiber, but do you know why fiber is so good for your health? This class not only explores fiber’s important health benefits but also addresses how much dietary fiber is needed and what foods contain it.

The College Avenue Center offers hot kosher lunches, Monday - Friday at 12:00 p.m.  Their Soup & Salad Bar is offered Monday - Friday from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.  There is a suggested donation for seniors of $4 and the fee for all others is $7.
