Biocom's Year in Review 2018

As the year comes to a close, let's look back at the accomplishments we achieved together to make 
California an unstoppable force in life sciences. Biocom, along with partners in the community, produced over 200 educational and networking events targeting a range of job functions and therapeutic focuses in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and the Bay Area this year.

To celebrate both Lab Week and National DNA Day, Biocom Institute and Millennium Health hosted a hands-on event with Thrive, an award winning group of free public charter schools, where middle school children participated in a variety of DNA experiments with Millennium Health scientists and employees. In addition, they hosted a panel discussion which allowed the students to learn about the wide variety of career opportunities within the life sciences industry, including laboratory operations, genetic research, graphic design and business technology.

The 2019 San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering was just as exciting and successful as ever, thanks to the Biocom member community, and San Diego community as a whole. This event has been a fantastic way for San Diego to celebrate and appreciate the STEM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) industries right here at home, while also inspiring and encouraging the next generation of San Diego to continue to grow these industries!

With 60,000 students, teachers, parents, and industry companies participating in Festival Week, we continued to inspire young minds and empowered them to build rewarding careers in life science. Our kickoff event, Expo Day, which took place on Saturday, March 2nd, was a hit – with more than 17,100 attendees despite a day full of rain! Petco Park was packed full of businesses, nonprofits, and educational organizations all united with the goal to teach and inspire the youth of San Diego in all things STEM. The week continued with an exciting lineup of over 90 STEM Week events – our busiest STEM Week ever! Attendance at all events was full, and we had the best showing of volunteers we’ve ever seen.
