Opportunity Summit Aims to Connect Youth to Educational and Employment Opportunities

San Diego State University's STEM Exploration Day

On Friday, March 15, 2019 - San Diego State University (SDSU) welcomed 300 hgih school students from 14 partner schools in San Diego to partipate in a day to explore labs and experience hands-on Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. Exploration Day aims to inform high school students from underrepresented backgrounds about careers and educational paths in STEM. SDSU undergraduates from the Pathways Service-Learning office served as guides for students throughout the day. 

The day included hands-on workshops, lab tours, and a student panel. Confirmed presenters and workshops include:

  • Biochemistry Lab with Dr. Huxford
  • Life Science Alive- Scripps Research Translational Institute 
  • Planetarium 
  • Financial Literacy-Beta Alpha Psi 
  • Biochemistry Lab with Dr. Sohl and Sati Alexander

  • Experimental Theatre 
  • A Day in the Life of a Marine Biologist 
  • Hip Hop Math- Dr. Rob 
  • Stacking Cups, Cyber Security, How a Ball Falls 
  • Egg Drop 
  • Impact of Neuroengineering on patients with spinal cord injuries
