On Thursday, October 11th, dignitaries from the United States Department of Agriculture, the California Department of Education, Vista Mayor Judy Ritter, and other special guests visited the Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts for a special event to celebrate the Vista Unified School District winners of the USDA’s Healthier US School Challenge.
Nearly 200 5th graders, teachers and staff gathered to see seven schools receive the Gold Level Award for their efforts to create healthier school environments through nutrition and physical activity. The event included a short ceremony, featuring performances from two of the Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts’ student music groups. The ceremony was followed by a Nutrition Fair with a set of activity stations for students, a tour of the school’s culinary garden for dignitaries, and an opportunity for students from the honored schools to share lunch together. The 5th grade class of Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts was joined by 5th grade representatives from each of the other six schools receiving the award.

for Vista Unified School District. “We believe it is a reflection of the work that our team has done
to establish Vista Unified School District as a national leader in innovation of school nutrition.”

Beaumont Elementary; Bobier Elementary; Foothill Oak Elementary; Grapevine Elementary;
Hannalei Elementary; Maryland Elementary; Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts.
