Recovery International Increases Access to Spanish-Language Mental Health Support

Valerie Blanco, Office Administrator, Recovery International

Recovery International is pleased to announce the addition of weekly Spanish-language mental health support meetings to their menu of free support services for individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, mental stress, panic attacks, schizophrenia, PTSD, or alcoholism. All meetings provide a safe space to receive guidance, fellowship, acceptance, and support from peers with similar problems.

The mission of Recovery International is to use the cognitive-behavioral, peer-to-peer, self-help training system developed by Abraham Low, MD, to help individuals gain skills to lead more peaceful and productive lives. The creation of a Spanish-language meeting took several months of planning and input from many different people to make it work. The new meeting will help the Spanish speaking community better access services and receive more mental health support.

Since the meetings began in early February 2022, nearly 60 people have attended.

Participants have had the following to say about their experience:

"Estas reuniones me han ayudado muchísimo./These meetings have helped me so much."

"Tener acceso a ayuda en español es increíble, aunque hablo ingles, en español se me facilita mas./Having access to help in Spanish in incredible, even though I speak English, it's way easier for me in Spanish''

"Vine buscando ayuda para mi hija, que ella sí habla inglés, pero pude obtener ayuda para mi tambien con la reunion en espanol./I came looking for help for my daughter, she speaks English, but I was able to get help for myself, too, with the Spanish meeting"

Recovery International’s Spanish-language support meeting is held virtually every Friday at 11am PST via Zoom. If you or someone you know would benefit and are interested, please register for the meeting in advance.
