Jazmin Garcia, Community Relations Officer, San Diego County Credit Union
With the end of the year and holidays approaching, have you considered whether your finances are still on track? It is not too late to begin reevaluating your finances and budget to prepare for the holidays and the new year. As an engaged community partner and San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, San Diego County Credit Union is committed to helping educate the community by providing free financial wellness presentations and resources to help teach community members of all ages how to manage their finances and how to help contribute to a thriving future economy. They have some great ideas on how to save, spend wisely, and plan for upcoming expenses.
Their “Thriving Through the Holidays” webinar series will teach you how to responsibly handle the spending pressures and choices of the holiday season, including information on budgeting, shopping for gifts, and managing other holiday costs. The presentation offers ideas to help you think outside the box when it comes to gifts which can help cut costs while still spreading joy. Having experiences instead of spending money on tangible items is more memorable for all involved and can also help the environment and your local economy.
For instance, instead of participating in Black Friday, you could swap out the tradition for Live Well San Diego’s Green Friday. Green Friday encourages you to get outside and explore our local parks by taking hikes, participating in conservation efforts, or visiting local or national parks with family and friends. Participating in Green Friday activities can add relief and a sense of accomplishment in addition to the quality time you will spend with family and friends. [FL1]
