Starting fall 2021, The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank will offer four new food distributions sites in San Diego County’s rural, unincorporated areas, including Campo, Jamul, La Posta, and Manzanita. The San Diego Food Bank brokered approval for the new locations through the Southern California Tribal Chairmen’s Association: Jamul Indian Village of California - one of 12 federally recognized tribes that make up the Kumeyaay Nation of Southern California, La Posta Band of Mission Indians, Manzanita Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, and the Campo Kumeyaay Nation.
To help reach more people in need, the San Diego Food Bank collaborated with the Southern Indian Health Council to align their food distributions to the Council’s ROAM (Roaming Outpatient Access Mobile) program. In addition, thanks to the generous support of SDG&E, the San Diego Food Bank was able to purchase a new mobile pantry to help further expand their reach into these new areas.
Food distribution schedule:
· Jamul Tribal Hall & Community Center: the fourth Tuesday of each month.
· Campo Education Center: the second Wednesday of each month.
· Manzanita MAC building: the second Thursday of each month. The distribution held on Thursday, November 11, 2021, will be rescheduled in honor of Veteran’s Day to November 9, 2021.
· La Posta Tribal Office: the third Friday of each month.
Additional volunteers are needed to help with the food distribution at these new locations.
