San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU) is committed to improving overall economic well-being and making a positive difference in our local schools by helping teachers, parents and students make educated financial decisions through delivering important financial education, products and services.
SDCCU Classroom Heroes
The SDCCU Classroom Heroes program, launched in partnership with ABC 10News, iHeartMedia, Inc. San Diego and the San Diego County Office of Education, recognizes deserving teachers who go above and beyond to create a positive learning experience for students. Each month, teachers, students, parents and the community are encouraged to nominate a deserving teacher who makes a difference in the classroom and in the lives of their students. Winning teachers are featured on a segment on ABC 10News and receive a $500 SDCCU Visa® gift card. Since the program began in 2015, more than 40 teachers have been awarded for their dedication and efforts.
Stuff the Bus
San Diego County Credit Union® also supports students in need by hosting the annual Stuff the Bus event held in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education in support of the Live Well San Diego vision for healthy, safe and thriving communities. This event collects school supplies for students in need, including the more than 22,000 students experiencing homelessness in the county. The latest event in 2019 brought in nearly 7,000 backpacks and about 270,000 school supplies for students, equaling a total value of $329,634!
“San Diego is such a generous community,” said Susie Terry, San Diego County Office of Education’s coordinator for Homeless Education Services. “Not only do our friends and neighbors take the time to buy supplies or make monetary donations, they also give their time, sorting through the hundreds of thousands of school supplies and filling backpacks, all to make sure the most vulnerable children in our community can start the school year right.”
