It’s an annual tradition at San Diego City College (SDCC) to host a
Health and Wellness Fair. On April 15, 2014, SDCC’s Live Well
Committee – comprised of faculty, food services, and student
representatives – in partnership with SDCC’s Mental Health Counseling
Center, organized a three-day event as part of SDCC’s centennial
anniversary celebration. The Live Well Committee also coordinates the
Step Up to Live Well campaign on campus.
Nearly 40 groups
and organizations filled SDCC’s Curran Plaza with resource tables
promoting health and wellness. Health Link Nurses from the County’s
Health and Human Services Agency sponsored a display of services and
educational information and brochures on healthy nutrition and
exercise. Family Health Centers, San Diego Blood Bank, Independent
Therapy Dogs, Walgreens, and Covered California, among others,
sponsored information booths as well. Attendees also had
opportunities to practice healthy behaviors by stopping by a shaded
meditation station or joining in the group hip hop dance led by a
campus faculty member.
The Health & Wellness Expo
continued on April 16 with an Environmental Health and Safety Fair and
concluded on April 17 with Mobile Health Day, where the Family Health
Center mobile health unit and the County of San Diego Mobile HIV
Testing Unit were on campus offering check-ups and screenings.
San Diego City College joined the County of San Diego’s Live
Well San Diego initiative as a recognized partner on November 7, 2013.
