SDCCU Biz Kid$ Program Helps San Diegans Thrive

San Diego County Credit Union’s® (SDCCU®) dedication to building healthier, safer and thriving communities is embedded in its corporate culture and extends outward into the community. Founded more than 75 years ago by San Diego County employees on the principle that people come first and profits second, SDCCU is now San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution. With $6.9 billion in assets and over 291,000 customers, SDCCU proudly supports more than 75 non-profits and participates in 200-plus community events each year.

SDCCU believes that encouraging and maintaining good financial health among individuals in the community is essential to fostering a healthy and thriving economy. Research shows that poor financial health can often lead to diminished physical health and the majority of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. As a Live Well San Diego partner and San Diego’s largest locally owned financial institution—and a not-for-profit—financial literacy is a huge component of SDCCU’s community outreach. SDCCU engages in in several activities throughout the year aimed at improving the fiscal health of individuals in our communities and helping San Diegans to enjoy the highest quality of life.

In 2015, SDCCU stepped up to help bridge the education gap so that kids can gain the skills they need for a successful future. SDCCU partnered with San Diego County Office of Education and the County of San Diego in support of Live Well San Diego to give teachers the opportunity to win the complete SDCCU Biz Kid$ Program to teach their students about money and business.

“SDCCU is proud to partner with the San Diego County Office of Education and the County of San Diego to provide teachers throughout the county the opportunity to receive the complete Biz Kid$ program. This comprehensive program is designed to teach students the basics of money and business to help them make better financial decisions early on and enhance their lives for years to come,” said Teresa Halleck, SDCCU President and CEO.

“Financial literacy in our schools is an important part of a child’s education and the San Diego County Office of Education is pleased to provide this valuable resource to local teachers, in partnership with the County of San Diego and San Diego County Credit Union,” said Dr. Randolph E. Ward, County Superintendent of Schools. “The SDCCU Biz Kid$ program will help lay the groundwork for students to begin building a successful financial future.”
