The George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc. have been awarded a 3 year grant from Memory Guides, a local non-profit organization that helps families plan for aging. The grant will allow the Glenner Centers to facilitate what are known as Memory Cafés in various San Diego County community locations. A Memory  Café  is a gathering place for anyone worried about or experiencing memory loss, where they can relax, learn and enjoy socialization, discussion and activities. The facilitated sessions serve to educate and empower those worried about or experiencing memory loss. Anyone who is concerned about memory problems is welcome to attend.

“Memory Cafés are a well-known resource throughout Europe for those who are either facing or have concerns about Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia," said Scott J. Tarde, Chief Executive Office and Executive Director of the Glenner Centers. “We are absolutely honored to continue and expand upon the great work that Memory Guides has already established here in San Diego County.

Marshall Staneck, Chair of the Board of Directors of Memory Guides, says “After starting Memory Cafés 2 years ago in San Diego and with a seed gift from the San Diego Dementia Consortium, I’m excited to contract with Glenner to lead the Memory Café operations. This will allow Memory Guides to focus on the Life Resource Planning services we offer older adults and their families to help them avoid the crisis I’ve experienced and I see other families going through."
