Volunteers Clean Up Litter for Creek to Bay Cleanup

NEWS // March 31, 2018

Be a Part of I Love a Clean San Diego's 16th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup

Registration is officially open for I Love A Clean San Diego’s 16th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup! With a tagline of “Your Neighborhood, Our Environment,” Creek to Bay highlights the importance of acting locally to contribute regionally. Volunteers can get involved at a site in or near their neighborhood and make a difference for the overall health and beauty of the entire county.

With 112 cleanup sites in 2017, more than 6,500 volunteers demonstrated their dedication to San Diego’s environment, removing 190,000 pounds of litter and debris during the three-hour event. Not only will we be removing litter as part of Creek to Bay Cleanup, the event also includes beautification projects such as graffiti removal and replacement of invasive species with drought-tolerant alternatives. Help remove even more trash and debris and beautify San Diego County by getting registered for this year’s Creek to Bay Cleanup on April 21, 2018, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Register now at www.CreektoBay.org.

With a commitment to zero waste practices, ILACSD encourages all Creek to Bay volunteers to bring at least one reusable item to the cleanup. When volunteers bring their own reusable water bottle, work gloves, and bucket to collect litter, they prevent thousands of single-use bags and disposable gloves from entering San Diego’s landfills. When registering, volunteers can pledge to bring one of these items with them (or all three).

Once again, ILACSD will be having a “Bling Your Bucket” competition for Creek to Bay. Participants have the opportunity to decorate their reusable buckets showing off their creativity and imagination and submit photos for the chance to win fun prizes and have their picture posted on the Creek to Bay Cleanup website for one year! Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate.

The Sony Photo Contest is back again for Creek to Bay Cleanup 2018 with a theme of “Rocking Reusables!” While volunteers spend the morning helping to preserve the environment, they can snap pictures of their zero waste cleanup habits. After attending Creek to Bay Cleanup, participants may submit their best photo from the event into the competition where the top five finalists will be put to a vote on the ILACSD Facebook page. The winner will receive a Sony Cybershot Camera!

Volunteers who sign up for the 2018 Creek to Bay Cleanup will work with ILACSD to preserve and enhance San Diego for current and future generations to enjoy. Leading the way to a zero waste, litter-free and environmentally engaged San Diego region, ILACSD encourages all community members to take action in their neighborhood by joining us on April 21st. Registration information and details regarding Creek to Bay Cleanup can be found at www.CreektoBay.org.
