Family engagement is a key factor to student school achievement. The Escondido Union School District's (EUSD) Parent University Program is an innovative family support program offered at all EUSD school sites. Facilitated by bilingual Family Liaisons in their school site, Family Engagement Centers, Parent University offers parents and guardians with ongoing opportunities to develop skills to ensure their students' achieve both academic and personal success.

Through free classes, Parent University trains parents and guardians to become the academic coaches for their children and raise healthy, happy kids. Class presenters range from family liaisons, school administrators, and student support staff to community providers and local experts. Topics have included Family Engagement and School Success, Positive Behavior at School and at Home, Know the Signs Suicide Prevention and Intervention, Reclassification, Understanding School Assessments, and Healthy Habits at Home.

Launched as a component of EUSD's Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant, the CARE Youth Project, and now a component of the district's Community Outreach efforts, Parent University represents a partnership between the school district and the community of Escondido. During the 2015-2016 school year, EUSD Family Liaisons coordinated and/or presented 582 Parent University Classes with over 9,700 parents, guardians, and community members attending the workshops at EUSD school sites.
