It was a beautiful day in Pacific Beach on February 13. The sun was shining, boogie boarders were enjoying the ocean, and children were playing on the sand. Vacationers, locals, and those set to enjoy the three day President’s Day weekend were drawn to the Pacific Beach Lifeguard State Love Your Heart table for free blood pressure screenings. Public Health Nurses Lisa Kellum and Trista Collins and their SDSU nursing student helped beckon them to the table.
One of the participants, Ray (pictured getting his screening below), talked about how that his twin brother had been in Pacific Beach earlier that day and told him about the screening. While he doesn’t live in the area, he’s here often and thought it was important to have his blood pressure checked.
“Getting your blood pressure checked is part of healthy, clean living,” said Ray. “It can help you prevent heart attacks and stroke by knowing how you’re doing so you can take care of it.”
After getting his blood pressure checked, he also noted that exercising and proper diet are important elements of a healthy lifestyle.
