Edgemoor Skilled Nursing Facility in Santee provides long-term care for individuals having complex medical needs who require specialized interventions from highly trained staff.
Both staff and patients, alike, participated in the Edgemoor Love Your Heart event. While staff had an added incentive to “know their numbers” to be entered in an opportunity drawing, this was not the only reason for Maria Romero.
“My mom has high blood pressure and I haven’t had mine checked in while so I just wanted to see where I was so I could follow-up and stay healthy,” says Romero. “I’m already exercising and will also be seeing my doctor.”
Concorde Licensed Vocational Nursing students conducting the blood pressure screenings had a different perspective.
“It was a good experience to help serve and particularly to give back to the staff,” says Josie Pallado, a Concorde Licensed Vocational Nursing student.
These sentiments were echoed by Bernardo Samson, who said it was actually their last day of clinical training at Edgemoor, and Ma Jema Quimpo who said it had been great working with the patients.
“We’re fortunate that they are trusting us to help with Love Your Heart,” says Melanie Garcia, a Concorde Licensed Vocational Nursing student. “It makes us feel part of the staff and it’s so important to get your blood pressure checked since you don’t always have symptoms with hypertension.”
