San Diego Women’s Week Brings Messages of Empowerment to San Diego Residents March 14-18

Excitement will fill the air at this year’s San Diego Women’s Week as vibrant women from around the region connect in an atmosphere of empowerment and inspiration. The North San Diego Business Chamber, a Live Well San Diego recognized partner since June 2013, is celebrating its seventh year coordinating the event, which will be held at various locations March 14-18. Women’s Week will feature a powerful lineup of nationally recognized speakers, with several opportunities for attendees to inspire, empower, and connect with women of all ages and professions.

Event Schedule:

  • Monday: Opening Day, California Center for the Arts Escondido
  • Tuesday: Girlfriend’s Guide to Good Health, Sharp Rees-Stealy Scripps Ranch
  • Wednesday: Women & Wine, Bernardo Winery Rancho Bernardo
  • Friday: Inspiration Conference, Harrah’s Resort Southern California Valley Center

It all begins with Opening Day on Monday, March 14 at California Center for the Arts. Opening Day will feature actress, producer and author Dawn Wells of Gilligan’s Island  fame; Mallika Chopra, media entrepreneur and daughter of Deepak Chopra; relationship expert Arielle Ford; the County of San Diego’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nick Yphantides; and mental health advocate Tanya Brown, sister of Nicole Brown Simpson and author of 7 Sneaky Characters of Abuse, who will deliver a keynote on domestic violence and overcoming tragedy. This kick-off event is free for military service women and men.

Giving back to the community is also a theme for Women’s Week as attendees of Opening Day are encouraged to bring professionally cleaned career wear that they no longer need and donate them directly to women regaining independence, military spouses in need, and victims of abuse.

Additionally, Opening Day will include breakout sessions featuring panelists discussing a variety of topics including financial and physical health, relationships, and motivation. Attendees will have the opportunity to get free health screenings, makeovers, and a great swag bag.

Tuesday’s event, Girlfriend’s Guide to Good Health, is hosted by Sharp Rees-Steely in Scripps Ranch, and offers attendees short, informative and entertaining talks on many of the health issues women only discuss with their girlfriends (women only for this event). Health screenings and one-on-one consultations with physicians will also be available.

Wednesday evening’s event, Women and Wine, offers networking in a beautiful setting at Bernardo Winery. Attendees will enjoy wine pairings, unique shopping, and “Sip and Swap,” a fun way to raise funds for a local organization assisting battered women.

Friday’s Inspiration Conference addresses techniques that help women tap into their inner strength to tackle professional and personal challenges. Decorated former US Army Black Hawk pilot, Elizabeth McCormick, will share everyday lessons of leadership from harrowing stories of air assault and top-secret intelligence missions.

Also at Friday's event, learn how good posture makes a great impression and can make you feel more powerful. Amy Cuddy, known around the world for her 2012 TED Talk – the second most-viewed talk in TED’s history – delivers a keynote with themes from her book, Presence: Bringing Your Boldest Self to Your Biggest Challenges. Conference attendees will receive a signed copy of the book.
