ABC10/KGTV announced that more than 4,222,536 meals were raised during 10 News/KGTV’s (ABC10) 5th annual Month of a Million Meals campaign in partnership with Feeding San Diego. Exceeding the original goal by over 3,000,000 meals, the campaign ran from November 28 to December 31, 2017.
With an extended celebrity-studded on-air donation drive and the help of local partners Barons Market and BroAm Foundation, this monthlong campaign raised over $1,055, 634 thanks to the generosity of San Diego, with donations still coming in long after phones quieted.
“We are so grateful and inspired by the amazing support from generous San Diegans,” said Vince Hall, CEO of Feeding San Diego. “These meals will serve over 400,000 persons who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.”
Rallied support from well-known San Diegans included Chad Butler from Switchfoot, San Diego Padres Pad Squad & Friar, KOGO News Radio Morning Team LaDona Harvey and Ted Garcia, former Chargers player Tim Dwight, former San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, Master Chef Nick Nappi and so many others, we never knew who might show up!
“Kicking off the event with our on-air celebrity donation drive, and continuing all of December, the team at ABC 10News really gets enthused about helping our community fund this drive,” said Joel Davis, Vice President and General Manager at KGTV ABC10. “We are so impressed with the generosity of San Diegans. They gave so much we more than quadrupled the original goal. A lot of our neighbors will benefit from their willingness to give.
Started by ABC10 and Feeding San Diego as part of Live Well San Diego, the Month of a Million Meals is a holiday campaign for every $1 raised, Feeding San Diego can provide up to four much needed meals to support 1 in 8 San Diegans, including 1 in 5 children, struggling with hunger.
