Amidst a culture so focused on getting fit fast, LJ Pocsi, Founder and Head Coach of Infinitely Fit, strives to inspire San Diego County residents to transform their traditional views of health and fitness and approach overall wellness as something to be maintained throughout one’s life.
Pocsi, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, decided to enter the fitness industry after experiencing an epiphany during her own weight loss and fitness journey. Her narrative is relatable; similar to many of us, she struggled with body image issues at a young age and tried out various diet trends and exercise regimes in an effort to maintain her health. While some efforts proved more successful than others, they weren’t habits that she easily sustained. It wasn’t until 2011, when Pocsi participated in a 30-day corporate fitness challenge, that her mindset on how to approach health and fitness shifted to the philosophy she holds today.
“I am competitive to a fault, so when I did that challenge and only lost 3 pounds, I was a bit disappointed,” she remembers. “The modest weight loss made me assume I was at a point in my life where that was just where my weight was going to stay, and that I was always going to be a “big-boned” athlete. I kept following the principles I’d learned in the process of that challenge though, and more and more I recognized that I felt better. In a little over a year, I actually lost 40 pounds.”
After experiencing for herself the effect seemingly subtle yet impactful lifestyle changes could have, LJ decided to follow her passion for fitness and launch Infinitely Fit, a fitness and wellness business based in North San Diego County.
“I decided to get into the fitness industry because I wanted to help other people understand that it was really simple to live a healthy lifestyle,” said Pocsi. “It was something that I always made complicated previously and I wanted to share what I could with my community.”
Infinitely Fit offers personal and small-group fitness training, worksite wellness programs, yoga instruction and a variety of classes for its members. Pocsi fosters a welcoming and safe community for individuals to convene, practice self-love and acceptance, and continuously become healthier version of themselves.
“We are not just trying to make fit bodies, we are trying to inform people’s thinking around their health,” shared Pocsi. "We want them to feel good about themselves, but also understand that being well is more of a whole-person approach."
Since becoming a Live Well San Diego Recognized Partner earlier this year, Infinitely Fit has made it their priority to offer more and more family-friendly health and fitness experiences. Pocsi and her staff hosted an interactive activity booth at the 2017 Live Well San Diego 5K & Expo, hold free weekly walking and jogging groups for the community, and have started 4-week Mindful Eating workshops where residents can sign-up and learn skills to help tailor their nutrition and diet habits to their individual needs and lifestyles.
In partnership with other local businesses and organizations in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area, Infinitely Fit held “Life in Pieces,” a free wellness resource expo to bring the community together, highlight health and personal growth and promote small businesses. The event also raised awareness and donations for the Alabaster Jar Project, a local organization dedicated to supporting survivors of human trafficking.
Infinitely Fit also proudly supports fundraising efforts for other Veteran-owned businesses in San Diego County. “I believe whole-heartedly in the power of community and that means the community within our walls AND the community right outside our walls. We want to help build our community up however we can and we want to inspire people to start loving themselves, respecting themselves, and practicing compassion.”
Pocsi invites all community members to get involved with Infinitely Fit during the Live Well San Diego 31-Day Challenge this month, which focuses on New Year’s resolutions and healthy goal setting.
