Holiday Events Provide Assistance to Those in Need

Every holiday season and year round, the Chula Vista Community Collaborative helps out families in need and those in difficult situations.  Two annual holiday programs they host are the Santa Shop and Adopt a Family which help hundreds of families each year.  The Chula Vista Community Collaborative also works with individuals and families throughout the year through their network of Family Resource Centers.

The Santa Shop is an annual event that started in 2010.  Every December, the Chula Vista Community Collaborative invites families to join in the holiday festivities and provides toys and gifts/gift cards to each child/youth in the family.   In 2014, over 200 families attended and over 600 children and youth were given toys and gift cards to celebrate the holidays.  These gifts are made possible through generous donations from sponsors and community partners, including Chula Vista Cares, Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary, St. Rose of Lima, Church of Christ, Chula Vista Police Activities League, Border View YMCA, Chula Vista Rotary, and various caring individuals.

The Chula Vista Community Collaborative’s Adopt-a-Family program is an annual event started in 2013 that helps families who are in difficult circumstances and in need of help for the holidays.  In its second year, fourteen families were adopted to share in the spirit of the holidays and giving.   Families identified for the program came through one of the Chula Vista Community Collaborative’s Family Resource Centers where staff work to assist families to help them gain stability and achieve self-sufficiency.  This program also relies on the generosity of sponsors to help families and children have a wonderful holiday season.
