Mountain Health & Community Serves, Inc. recently hosted a Healthy Eating Workshop at their Community Center in Campo, CA. The Workshop was part of Mountain Health’s Wellness Education Series, which also includes workshops on smoking cessation and emergency preparedness. During the workshop, 88 attendees got a first-hand look at how much sugar is in common foods and beverages and many were surprised by the amounts of sugar in the containers. As an alternative to traditional snacks that can be high in fat and sugar, cara cara oranges and kiwis were provided during the workshop, reminding attendees fruit can be just as sweet as candy, especially if it is in season. Feeding America was also on-site for a food distribution, and attendees received advice on turning simple ingredients into healthy, flavorful meals.
