Facilitated by bilingual Family Liaisons in their school site Family Engagement Centers, Parent University offers parents and guardians with ongoing opportunities to develop skills to ensure their students' experience academic and personal success. Presenters range from family liaisons, school administrators, and student support staff to community providers and local experts. Topics have included Family Engagement and School Success, Positive Behavior at School and at Home, Know the Signs Suicide Prevention and Intervention, Reclassification, Understanding School Assessments, and Healthy Habits at Home. Launched as a component of Escondido Union School District's Safe Schools and Healthy Students Grant, the CARE Youth Project, and now a component of the district's Community Outreach efforts, Parent University represents a partnership between the school district and the community of Escondido. During the 2015-2016 school year, Escondido Union School District Family Liaisons coordinated and/or presented 582 Parent University Classes with just over 9,700 parents, guardians, and community members attending the workshops at their school sites.
