Each year, Grossmont College hosts a Super Saturday Training through the Foster, Adoptive and Kinship Care Education Program (FAKCE). The training consists of a full day of workshops for caregivers, and foster and adoptive parents. Keynote speakers and workshops are focused around creating nurturing and supportive homes for children, as well as information for the caregiver, such as attachment, sexual exploitation, internet safety and much more.
In the past, kinship caregivers in attendance have been sparse as childcare was not offered. For the past two years, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency has partnered to help support the event and provide childcare for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren families who may not otherwise be able to attend. This year’s event had 90 kinship caregivers in attendance, and 74 children who were provided childcare.
