The Julian Union School District and Julian Pathways, the district's non-profit student and family support program, happily partnered with California Endowment's Agua4All campaign and Rural Community Assistance Corporation to install water bottle filling stations at the Julian Elementary and Junior High campuses.
Drinking enough water and brain function are integrally linked, and drinking adequate amounts of water and choosing water over other beverages is important for health. JUSD wanted students and staff to be able to drink more water and stay better hydrated, and children and adults alike were reluctant to use the old, sad-looking existing drinking fountains at school. With assistance from Agua4All and RCAC, six new, attractive, easy-to-use water bottle filling stations were installed. When school resumes in the fall, all students and staff on campus will receive a new BPA-free water bottle. New stations, water bottles and on-going education and promotion will lead to increased water consumption, improved health and better learners.
JUSD is thankful to all the partners who helped with the process: Agua4All raises awareness about California’s drinking water crisis and builds community partnerships to install water bottle filling stations in schools where they’re needed most; RCAC provides technical assistance and advocacy in rural areas; and Jimenez Plumbing who installed the water stations in one hundred degree heat!
