Eight intergenerational Julian residents recently became graduates of a Resident Leadership Academy (RLA) facilitated by Drug Free Julian, a program managed by CASA (Community, Action, Service and Advocacy). The participants met once a week for 10 weeks to receive in-depth training regarding core health information, community health strategies that support individual health and lifestyle choices, and practical ways to improve their community’s health. The graduates have chosen to apply their new knowledge within their community by converting a vacant corner lot located in the heart of the downtown area into a positive community social space, including potentially hosting a farmers’ market.
