San Ysidro Health Center Opens South Bay Health & Dental Center

On Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, San Ysidro Health Center (SYHC) hosted elected officials and civic leaders at a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community dedication commemorating the opening of its newest addition of family health centers, the South Bay Family Health & Dental Center (SBFHDC) located at 330/340 E. Eighth St., National City, CA 91950.

SYHC‘s South Bay Family Health & Dental Center is designed to offer compassionate high quality, medical and dental services in a state-of-the-art and innovative facility. The 6,000-square-foot facility layout includes a medical and dental clinic complete with their own waiting rooms and separate entrances for patients. The medical clinic is equipped with four exam rooms, one treatment room and currently houses two family practice physicians, while the dental clinic includes six exam rooms and currently houses two dentists serving pediatric and adult patients.

“We are committed to continue our work and expand the services we offer for residents in National City with the opening of the South Bay Family Health & Dental Center,” said Kevin Mattson, president and CEO, San Ysidro Health Center. “Our goal is to be able to provide high quality, compassionate and vital medical and dental services in order to help improve the quality of life for more families in the community.”

The South Bay Family & Dental Center is expected to serve more than 8,300 unduplicated patients and generate more than 23,300 clinic visits at full capacity. The medical clinic has been designed around the concept of The Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care, where the patient, not the support staff or provider, is the focus of all care and services.

SYHC‘s South Bay Family Health & Dental Center officially opened to the public on a limited basis since mid-December and has been fully operational for a month and is already treating patients.  Dr. Alexander Medina, one of the physicians at the medical clinic, had a male patient come in for one issue and decided to order more tests be done because this individual did not go to the doctor on a regular basis. The results revealed he also had diabetes, and the team had to act quickly to treat him. In addition to his medical issues, the team also found out he didn’t have insurance, was going through a divorce, and living in his car, factors that needed to be considered when treating him. The PCMH model of care provided an opportunity for all members of the clinic to collaborate with the patient and his care. Due to his initial visit, the patient now has insurance, an action plan provided by the care coordinator at the clinic, treatment for his medical issues and has the tools to take care of his health and dental needs.

SYHC ‘s South Bay Family Health & Dental Center building is currently open to the public on and is currently accepting patients. For more information or to set up an appointment please call 619-662-4100 or visit www.syhc.org.
