On May 5th, 2018 the San Diego Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated convened the 2018 Women’s Health Forum, “The Silent Fight.” The forum, held at O'Farrell Charter School, was open to the public and focused on uterine fibroids.
The purpose for the Health Forum was to educate, inform and address questions about treatment, diagnosis/ symptoms, disparities, dietary management and coping advice to help women through this journey.
The organization's long term goal is to lead the uterine fibroids discussion in San Diego, as well as champion future initiatives under the implementation of Fibroids Awareness Month in July. Keeping African American women at the forefront, Delta Sigma Theta will provide the space, information and other resources necessary to educate San Diego communities on issues related to uterine fibroids.
The organization also provided a sample letter template at the forum to encourage the community to write local senators and urge their support in increasing funding for women's health research, as well as resources to participate in research.
