Diabetes Alert Day with the American Diabetes Association

Nationally, 29 million individuals have diabetes and 86 million have prediabetes, however many do not know they have the disease or are at risk. American Diabetes Association Alert Day® is a one-day "wake-up call" asking the American public to take the Type 2 Diabetes Risk Test to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. On the fourth Tuesday in March, we encourage the general public to take the Type 2 Diabetes Risk Test, share it with family and friends, and participate in healthy activities and health fairs that educate them on how to they can lower their risk for diabetes. This year, the American Diabetes Association partnered with the County of San Diego, CBS Radio, Ralphs, Chick-fil-A, Diabetes Coalition of California, and others to host an Alert Day health fair in the Sports Arena area. Paper risk tests were distributed throughout the health fair, while Ralphs Pharmacy and La Maestra performed health screenings such as blood glucose tests and blood pressure measures for all interested, and many vendors provided valuable community resources. The American Diabetes Association also hosted a similar health fair in the Coachella Valley area.
