On May 20, 2016, The National City Chamber of Commerce hosted the 1st Annual National City Bike to Business Day by promoting and encouraging biking as a viable transportation choice. They promoted biking and local commerce by encouraging people to use their bicycle to visit local businesses, parks, schools, and places of work on National Bike to Work Day.

In conjunction with National Bike to Work Day on May 20, 2016, the National City Chamber of Commerce hosted National City Bike to Business Day. Their goal was to promote biking not only to work, but also to schools, businesses, parks, etc. They encouraged people to stop by the chamber for some morning fun and help cheer on Bike to Work participants. Health and wellness screenings were conducted by La Maestra Community Health Centers, goodies were distributed by the Mile of Cars Association and SANDAG, and snacks were provided by Wrigley’s Supermarket, Paradise Valley Hospital, and Premier Properties Security Services. Informational booths included Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center, Southwestern College, and the National City Tourism & Marketing District. There were a total of 42 participants. The participants were welcomed by enthusiastic Central Elementary School students, musical entertainment, and special guest, McGruff the Crime Dog. Furthermore, Safe Routes to School raffled 10 bicycles to the Central Elementary School students and Hub + Spoke performed complimentary bicycle tune-ups!
