On the morning of March 18, 2017, a parade of international flags streamed onto Lincoln High School’s football field. These flags were created by Head Start children in their classrooms and were presented at the 4^th Annual Head Start Let’s Move Olympics, hosted by The Neighborhood House Association in partnership with First 5 San Diego. Over 750 parents and Head Start children gathered for a morning filled with fun and physical fitness as they learned creative ways to get the entire family moving.

The Let’s Move Olympics emphasizes family engagement and group activities, both of which are beneficial contributions to family and community enrichment. The event helps parents and children practice simple physical activities they can do at home without the need for equipment. 

After singing the National Anthem and special presentations, the children heard from Olympian Jadel Gregorio, a Brazilian athlete who competed in the long jump and triple jump events in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Gregorio provided some motivation, then parents and children warmed up with music and Zumba before taking the field for an obstacle course and other physical activities like running, jumping, leap frog, and bear crawls. For all of their hard work, each child left with their very own gold medal.
