San Diego Padres Join Live Well San Diego as a Recognized Partner

On Wednesday September 20, 2017, the San Diego Padres officially became a Live Well San Diego Recognized Partner. The Padres celebrated this day by receiving a San Diego County proclamation and by hosting a County Employees Day at the Park featuring the Ceremonial First Pitched tossed by County Supervisor Ron Roberts. In attendance on the field was Health and Human Services Agency Director Nick Macchione and HHSA Executive Team members Kimberly Gallo and Dr. Nick Yphantides.

Throughout their time as San Diego’s Major League Baseball (MLB) team, the Padres have supported many events and initiatives that have aligned them with the Live Well San Diego vision of a region that is Building Better Health, Living Safely and Thriving.

The Padres frequently collaborate with local and national organizations to host events such as Strike Out Stroke, a partnership between MLB teams and the national Strike Out Stroke organization in an effort to raise awareness and education for stroke prevention. The San Diego Padres have made major contributions that help encourage all 3.3 million residents in the region to live healthy and active lifestyles.

As a major military region, San Diego County is home to one of the largest active duty and veteran military populations in the country. The San Diego Padres make every effort to show appreciation for the men and women of our armed forces, including hosting specific games in honor of each branch of the military. Additionally, the Padres have a robust set of military programs that make baseball accessible and affordable for military personnel and their families.

In an effort to encourage healthy living and participation in baseball among youth, the Padres have created several signature programs in collaboration with Major League Baseball. Among these programs are the “RBI/Jr RBI”, “#FuturePadres” and the Padres Baseball Camps. These programs provide the opportunity for youth to play ball no matter who they are or where they live.

The Padres have a strong history of supporting the community they call home through various initiatives and events that align with the Live Well San Diego vision. As a Major League Baseball organization, the Padres have brought light to many issues affecting our community, all while doing it in a way that celebrates America’s favorite pastime. The San Diego Padres will continue to support initiatives that align with Live Well San Diego into the future.
