Wellness Program Achieves Fit Friendly Honor

Community Research Foundation (CRF) has provided behavioral health services for the County of San Diego since 1980 and currently has 25 programs located throughout the region. CRF instituted its first company-wide wellness program in March 2013 and is proud to have been recognized by the American Heart Association as a Gold Level Fit Friendly Company for the last two years. Among CRF’s many ongoing wellness initiatives are biometric screenings, flu shot clinics, weight management programs, smoking cessation classes and support, numerous free exercise classes, healthy cooking classes and nutrition education.

CRF has been an innovator in providing wellness education and resources to persons recovering from mental illness and/or substance abuse issues, including teaching yoga, meditation and other exercise activities at its programs. One of CRF’s three vocational clubhouses, the East Corner Clubhouse in El Cajon, hosted a Wellness Fair in the fall of 2014. Over 100 clients from other clubhouses throughout San Diego attended this annual half day event to experience a range of educational topics including smoking cessation, nutrition on a budget, health education, spirituality, and more. They were also provided a healthy lunch and offered free biometric screenings. Primary care and faith-based providers were onsite to offer their services.
