Nordson ASYMTEK Employees Construct Playground at Homeless Center

More than 50 Nordson ASYMTEK, MARCH and YESTECH employees participated in a two-day long Big Build, working through both record-breaking rain and hot sun to complete construction on a new playground to benefit the children living in the Solutions for Change Family Intake Center. Located in Vista, CA, the intake center provides up to three months of shelter for families who are waiting to move into the Solutions Family Center, a supportive family housing program where parents can rebuild the life skills needed to solve their family's homelessness, offering access to workforce development and counseling.

“The children staying in the intake center are living in very close quarters and have no other space to play besides the playground area,” explains Nordson Corporation Foundation Program Officer, Sara Vaz. “Building this beautiful space for the kids will bring joy to their lives in an otherwise very difficult time.”

During the opening ceremony for the new playground, The County of San Diego Board of Supervisors recognized Nordson for “outstanding service, leadership and commitment to the health, safety and well-being of the region’s residents,” and presented Joe Stockunas, Vice President of Advanced Technology Systems, with a proclamation declaring September 17, 2015, as Nordson Day.

Nordson employees will continue to take pride in their volunteer efforts by organizing monthly volunteer projects around the themes of Sustainability, Literacy, Community and Giving.
