Blindspot Collective’s vision of transformative theatre amplifies marginalized voices, illuminates untold stories, bridges disparate experiences, and energizes vulnerable communities. Blindspot Collective is a unique theatre company with a commitment to both excellent performing arts programming and authentic community development that provides a platform to underrepresented communities and individuals.
The arts are an integral part of supporting the thriving component of the Live Well San Diego vision. Blindspot Collective’s original artistic work focuses on important public health issues such as bullying, racial injustice, and mental health issues that local communities are experiencing. Their work helps highlight the importance of mental health and focuses on resilience as an important component to healthy, safety and well-being. Programs also bring awareness to issues impacting immigrants, people with disabilities, Muslims, members of the LGBTQ+ community and veterans battling post-traumatic stress disorder, bringing them to the forefront of community conversations.
The company also develops Forum Theatre for youth audiences, including Safa’s Story and Danny’s Story, which allow young people to consider the complexities of difference and prejudice.
Blindspot Collective develops inclusive programming that cultivates new work, emerging artists and diverse audiences. The company has collaborated with La Jolla Playhouse, The Old Globe, Diversionary Theatre, UC San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance, and other community partners since being founded in 2017.
