Community, Action, Service & Advocacy (CASA) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on May 21, 2015. Formed in 1986 as a non-profit community coalition, CASA aims to address the root causes of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drug use and abuse using science-based prevention strategies. Committed to creating healthy, safe and thriving communities, CASA has been an active member of the Live Well San Diego East Region Leadership Team since the team’s inception. They are on the forefront of substance abuse prevention in San Diego through education, research, advocacy, and service. Grounded in the philosophy that place matters, CASA’s prevention initiatives focus on population level change.
CASA has successfully mobilized community efforts in El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove and surrounding unincorporated communities to amend tobacco control policies to include electronic devices. They have also conducted 177 store assessments in East, South and Central Regions for the Healthy Community statewide initiative encouraging local markets and corner shops to provide and promote healthier choices. CASA looks forward to future collaborations in support of the Live Well San Diego vision.
