DETOUR became a Live Well San Diego Recognized Partner on April 22, 2017. DETOUR (Depositing Empowerment Through Outreach and Urban Redevelopment) was established in 2009 to teach and mentor teen girls of color in grades 6-12 to be themselves by exploring their self-identity, building confidence, participating in career exploration/employment, volunteering/service-based learning and completing a college education.
DETOUR supports Live Well San Diego by extending its services and resources in order to seek its vision of empowering individuals to live and thrive in communities by promoting and supporting workforce development and pathways to careers while creating safe environments for youth, teens, and young adults.
Since its inception, DETOUR has empowered more than 700 young women by uplifting, motivating, and inspiring girls to become personally, academically, and professionally successful through education, empowerment, and the arts. DETOUR’s mission is to provide greater access to education and employment opportunities for girls of color through its Focused And Naturally Confident Youth (F.A.N.C.Y.) Development Programs.
