Escondido Education COMPACT joined Live Well San Diego as a
recognized partner on March 20, 2014. Through a partnership with the
Escondido Police Department and the Escondido Union School District’s
CARE Youth Project, COMPACT offers Juvenile Diversion Services,
provides case management services, youth leadership and mentoring. As
the North Inland Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical
Activity and Obesity Prevention (CX3) project partner, COMPACT helps
youth leaders identify short and long-term projects to improve the
walkability and access to fresh healthy foods in their neighborhood.
In 2013, as a subcontractor to Interfaith Community Services, the
County’s Family Self-Sufficiency Contractor, COMPACT became a SNAP-Ed
Provider focused on health education through workshops, food
demonstrations and community events for North Inland San Diego
County. The organization added Safe Routes to School and Bike/Walk
Escondido projects to create a safer and healthier community through
establishing partnerships that emphasize the accessibility of complete
streets that are safer, more livable and welcoming to everyone,
especially for youth traveling to and from school.
In
2012, COMPACT adopted the healthy and safe philosophy in addition to
its bylaws that commit COMPACT to being violence, tobacco, alcohol,
and drug free. In addition to the standing philosophy, bylaws, and
projects, COMPACT aims to ensure that all new projects and partners
align with the Live Well San Diego vision by seeking grants to
improve access to education and resources to promote positive
choices. In becoming a Live Well San Diego partner, COMPACT
pledges to promote positive choices within the organization by
encouraging board members and employees to reduce their consumption of
sugar-sweetened beverages, providing more opportunities for physical
activity during the workday, and starting fun and engaging health
challenges to motivate employees to make better food and beverage
decisions. By focusing both inward and outward, COMPACT is committed
to continued efforts and partnerships that promote a healthy, safe and
thriving community.
