Fallbrook Union Elementary School District

Fallbrook Union Elementary School District (FUESD) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on April 23, 2015 following a vote by its Governing Board. FUESD became a Live Well San Diego partner by promoting the link between student well-being and learning. FUESD established a comprehensive wellness program, Fallbrook Forward, which provides strategies to support students and employees to build better health, grow in safe schools, and thrive as leaders in the community. This program also encourages multiple forms of physical activity, nutrition education, and environmental stewardship. Through the efforts of FUESD’s Wellness Committee, school sites maintain a thriving school garden providing outdoor educational opportunities focusing on nutrition. In addition, good nutrition and healthy eating habits for both students and staff are promoted through the District’s Child Nutrition Program which provides salad bars during lunch at all school sites and a healthy afternoon snack through the Afterschool Education and Safety (ASES) program. To meet additional health needs of students, FUESD partners with the Big Smiles Program to provide an oral health clinic during the school day.

To promote leadership development, all FUESD schools have been designated a “The Leader in Me School” which uses The 7 Habits of Effective People to foster effective communication, collaborative problem solving, and goal setting to equip students, teachers and parents with the self-confidence and skills they need to thrive as leaders. To enhance school safety, all FUESD schools have implemented the “Safe Schools Ambassador’s Program,” which is a student-led initiative to empower student bystanders to reduce bullying and mistreatment, resulting in improved campus climates and increased positive student choices. In an effort to promote health and wellness among their employees, FUESD links staff with community resources and on-site educational opportunities to encourage physical activity, healthy eating, and support for long-term health. Moving forward, FUESD is committed to continuing its successful programs that support students, staff and families and contribute to a healthy, safe, and thriving community.
