Lean & Green Kids (LGK) joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on September 25, 2018 at the HealthLink North County collaborative meeting. The mission of LGK is to empower kids to reach their full potential with plant-strong nutrition, while creating a healthier, greener, and more socially just world for all. From the classroom to the cafeteria, LGK instills in youth a special appreciation for the health and environmental benefits of delicious plant-powered meals. Choosing plant-based meals is one of the easiest, most efficient and economical ways to conserve water, land, wildlife, and energy.
For close to a decade, LGK has engaged students in K-12 classrooms with eco-focused and multi-cultural food literacy programs that meet national standards for health education. Their fun and interactive lessons include a culinary component, giving students ownership and pride in creating their own plant-powered meal. LGK also provides innovative nutrition education resources to both teacher and school nutrition partners, including health tips in their Daily Scoop program, children’s food-focused books, and educational food posters for classrooms and cafeterias. Lean & Green Kids is fully committed to the Live Well San Diego vision, and will continue its successful programs that contribute towards a healthy, safe, and thriving community.
