The Salvation Army has been providing social services to the poor and homeless in San Diego County since 1887 – for more than for 130 years and counting. In 2018, the Salvation Army served over 267,000 needy San Diegans.
There are seven Corps Community Centers throughout the County which provide a wide range of social services and support for local communities. The Salvation Army's Door of Hope Haven Interim Housing (HIH) is short-term housing for single women and women with children who are experiencing homelessness. This population is especially vulnerable during the hottest and coldest months of the year. Interim housing is the bridge between living on the streets and permanent housing, and residents can stay at the shelter for up to three months. The Haven Interim Housing can serve up to nine families and eight single women at a time. It provides a safe place where women can save money, get jobs, and learn life skills while keeping their children in a safe environment.
