South Bay Community Services joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on June 24, 2014. They have been serving families for over 40 years. Since 1971, South Bay Community Services has been a valuable part of the community providing the most comprehensive range of services and programs for families, children and individuals in South San Diego County. They have implemented essential community programs such as child health and intervention classes, parenting classes, shelter and support for homeless families and fair housing assistance that provides members of the community healthier, more stable lifestyle options.
They extend beyond their walls. They participated in the Walkability Assessment of areas in Chula Vista to increase walking versus driving. Their volunteers have participated in the Live Well San Diego initiative efforts by cleaning up parks and removing graffiti to make our neighborhoods safer.
Furthermore, South Bay Community Services is changing the culture from within by providing staff with healthy food options, maintaining community gardens, and community based brown bag discussions, where local leaders and experts speak about managing stress, and secondary trauma.
