The South County Economic Development Council joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on September 1, 2015. Since 1989, South County Economic Development Council has been led by a group of South San Diego County business and community leaders, to promote education and encourage economic development in the South San Diego County Region. Member cities include Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City, San Diego, San Diego County, and the Port of San Diego. The South County Economic Development Council also works with partners in the northern portion of Baja California in the cities of Mexicali, Tijuana, Tecate, Rosarito and Ensenada.

The South County Economic Development Council began a Visioning Project, a five year economic strategy and regional vision built on investment opportunities and job creation resulting in a more marketable and economically viable South County.
The South County Economic Development Council was a key player in the development of the Thriving Agenda adopted by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors as part of Live Well San Diego, which identifies strategies that expand collaboration among workforce planning, education and community organizations and government agencies, creates pathways to careers, and investigates opportunities to generate regional partnerships and collaboration to support local economic development.
Through their work, the South County Economic Development Council is committed to the advancement the Live Well San Diego vision across the region.
