The Elizabeth Hospice organization joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on April 3, 2018. The Elizabeth Hospice is the region’s largest and most experienced nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider of medical, emotional and spiritual support to the seriously ill and their families in San Diego County and Southwest Riverside. Founded in 1978, the organization has touched the lives of more than 97,000 patients and families in our communities served, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. The Elizabeth Hospice is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a California licensed and Medicare-licensed provider. The organization is affiliated with the California Hospice and Palliative Care Association, and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, as well as local chambers of commerce, and business and civic organizations.
Teams of caring and highly knowledgeable physicians, nurse practitioners and staff provide a variety of comprehensive programs and services focusing on: Pain and symptom management; Perinatal and Pediatric Hospice Care; Palliative Care; Veteran services; and Bereavement and counseling programs for patients and the community-at-large. The Elizabeth Hospice is a recognized leader in the region. Its partnerships with local healthcare organizations including UCSD, Scripps Health, Palomar Health, Tri-City Medical Center, and Rady Children's Hospital has enabled collaboration between clinicians and specially trained team members to provide tailored services to individual adults and children. Its comprehensive Pediatric Hospice Program is the only one of its kind in San Diego County. With innovative techniques in the field of hospice and palliative medicine, their level of medical expertise is sought out by institutions of higher education across the region, including UCSD physician fellows and medical students.
Nationally, The Elizabeth Hospice was recognized as an Outstanding Employer of the Year by the national Disabled American Veterans Association for supporting the recruitment and retention of military veterans in the workplace. In addition, as a Level 4 Partner, the organization currently holds the highest distinction awarded in the We Honor Veterans program.
The Elizabeth Hospice strives to reach out to families from underserved communities who may not have resources or easy access to grief support and counseling. Bereavement counseling is offered to those impacted by illness, grief or loss, including specialized programs for children. In addition to the bereavement services to the community, The Elizabeth Hospice partners with the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office in providing grief support services for their clients. The Elizabeth Hospice is leading the path towards enhancing the lives of many patients and their families across our region.
