A LETTER FROM OUR LEADERSHIP

In 2010, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors formally adopted Live Well San Diego as a regional vision to align the efforts of County government, community partners and individuals towards a shared purpose - to help all San Diego County residents live healthy, safe and thriving lives.

Over the last decade, 500 Recognized Partners from all sectors and areas of the county have made a formal commitment to the Live Well San Diego vision, uniting to improve the well-being and health of our communities. During that time, efforts in support of the Live Well San Diego vision have driven a 12% reduction in the percentage of deaths associated with preventable health threats to 50% (2007-2019). The overall crime rate dropped 26% from 2012 to 2017. And 53,393 more people age 25 or older have a high school diploma or equivalent, a 3% increase (2012- 2018). All thanks to the collaboration of individuals and organizations working across sectors to improve our communities.

Turning to the decade ahead, we have been challenged by the past 10 years to think in new ways about equity and disproportionality, about our societal structures and the effects of new technologies, and about criminal justice, healthcare and homelessness. How can we use what we have learned to create a better tomorrow?

As we enter the next decade, not knowing what the future may bring, we must be nimble, we must stay united and we must be ready to pivot when ethical, political and social landscapes tell us to shift.

The stories of partner collaborations and results outlined in this 2020 Live Well San Diego 10-Year Impact Report remind us that when we work together we can accomplish more than each of us can do alone. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the past 10 years and celebrate a decade of healthy, safe and thriving communities.

Happy Anniversary, Live Well San Diego!
