Grossmont Healthcare District Invests in East County Health

Grossmont Healthcare District's Year in Review

In 2019 the Grossmont Healthcare District made strides in serving San Diego’s East County residents by investing in advancing local health initiatives, targeting priority health needs, and offering free healthcare services to children and families.

Grants & Scholarships

Grossmont Healthcare District kicked off the year by committing four million dollars to Sharp Grossmont Hospital’s efforts to becoming a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The newly designated stroke center will offer patients cutting edge stroke care in East San Diego County.

$500,000 was specifically allocated to fund East County’s priority health needs as defined by the Community Grants and Sponsorships program.

$2.4 million in grants and sponsorships were allocated to support the missions of various East County Organizations.

The District also invested more than $110,000 in local scholarships for future health care professionals. The scholarships funded opportunities for promising high school and college students in East County to pursue careers in the health care field.

Healthcare Services

Grossmont Healthcare District staff brought free healthcare services to more than 350 residents in Lemon Grove at the annual Kids Care Fest. At this event they served as one of the 40 local health and social service organizations that administered nearly 100 free flu shots, more than 200 dental screenings, and 100 vision screenings.

Healthcare Heroes

Grossmont Healthcare District showed their gratitude to five volunteer “Healthcare Heroes” who cumulatively donated several thousand service hours to Share Grossmont Hospital, local clinics, and social service organizations to improve health and quality of life in their East County district.

Nominate a Healthcare Hero! 2020 nominations are due March 6, 2020.
