Grossmont Healthcare District joined Live Well San Diego as a recognized partner on October 3, 2016. The mission of Grossmont Healthcare District is to maintain and improve the physical and behavioral health of its constituents, by anticipating and recognizing the unmet health care needs of the communities served and supporting suitable services to the greatest extent possible consistent with available resources.
Grossmont Healthcare District was formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa. Grossmont Healthcare District serves as landlord for the hospital property and buildings on behalf of East County taxpayers. In 1991, the District Board leased the operations of the hospital to Sharp Healthcare. In 2006, the District-sponsored Prop. G was passed to provide over $250 million in publicly-funded, state-of-the-art facilities improvements at Sharp Grossmont Hospital.
Since 1996, over $40 million in grant monies have been provided by the District to support health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East region. The District also organizes partners to address access to healthcare by annually hosting a Kids Care Fest. The family-oriented event that’s open to the public features free health care screenings for children and families. Individuals and providers who voluntarily go beyond their scope of work to inspire others by positively affecting the health and welfare of those living in the District’s boundaries are honored annually at Grossmont Healthcare District’s Healthcare Hero Awards.
The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District to meet the health information needs of local residents. It is a comprehensive consumer health library that is free, open to the public and accessible via the internet. Proud to be a recognized partner, Grossmont Healthcare District will continue to work closely with the County of San Diego to empower residents to take positive actions for their own health, safety and well-being.
