The San Ysidro School District partnered with the County of San Diego to distribute school supplies at the Families First Resource Fair. Over 800 residents attended the event and a total of 600 students received backpacks filled with school supplies.

Students from all seven schools in the district that had kinship caregivers and those in foster care or homeless were among the first to receive their backpacks. Children who received a backpack filled with school supplies were extremely excited and were prepared to begin their new school year.  

Parents and Caregivers showed their appreciation of the support, especially if they had more than one child in their household. “Thank you for the valuable information I received,” said one grandparent. “I didn't know there was so much support for us.”

On-site resources were also available to community members on job assistance programs, housing and food programs, information on county benefits and much more.

The San Ysidro School District knows the importance of helping families in need so children can focus and succeed in school.  San Ysidro Superintendent Dr. Fonseca and School District Board Members value all students in need or those who have experienced trauma, and are committed to assisting every  single  student achieve their fullest potential.  Despite the obstacles many students face, every one of them deserves to have every opportunity to succeed. The school district’s commitment to San Ysidro children and meeting their most basic needs will result in students’ ability to focus in school and in turn, reach their academic potential.
