The Borrego Springs Unified School District (BSUSD) joined Live Well San Diego as a Recognized Partner on March 14, 2018 following a vote by its Board of Education. BSUSD recognizes the link between health and learning, and strives to provide a comprehensive program that supports and reinforces student wellness, safety, healthy eating, and physical activity. In order to address the health needs of their students, BSUSD partners with the UCSD Eye Mobile each year to provide free vision screenings and glasses to preschool students and new students in need. To support heart health, BSUSD participates in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart events, and all 12th graders receive the American Heart Association CPR in Schools training in conjunction with the Borrego Springs Fire Department. To promote good nutrition and healthy eating habits for their students, BSUSD’s Nutrition Services Department provides foods and beverages that meet or exceed state or federal nutrition requirements. BSUSD is committed to providing a safe school and community environment at each school site through an annual update of their Comprehensive School Safety Plans, which includes feedback from each School Site Council and local law enforcement. Moving forward, Borrego Springs Unified School District is committed to continuing its successful programs that support their students and contribute towards a healthy, safe, and thriving community.
