The City of San Marcos joined Live Well San Diego as a
recognized partner on March 25, 2014 after their city council passed a
resolution on February 25, 2014. The City of San Marcos became a
Live Well San Diego partner by identifying quality of life as
a strategic goal for the City in alignment with the City’s core value
of providing a safe community. The City has adopted a general plan
that incorporates a mobility element supporting multi-modal
transportation to maximize walkability, bikeablity and livability. As
a result of this general plan update, the City has hosted community
forums to develop an extensive plan to turn the popular San Marcos
Boulevard into a complete street.
A video interviewing
program at San Marcos Senior Center and the intergenerational
community garden are just a few other examples of how the City of San
Marcos is dedicated to supporting access and programming for residents
of all ages. Furthermore, the City’s Community Service department
champions wellness in the community by offering monthly organized
trail hikes, a variety of instructional classes to encourage active
lifestyles, and various opportunities for recreational sports.
Employees of the City are also provided with opportunities to enhance
their own wellness through free health screenings and preventive care,
educational seminars and annual employee health fairs. The City of San
Marcos is committed to the Live Well San Diego vision and plans
to collaborate and share information with the County of San Diego in
support of the Live Well San Diego initiative.
